Victor Adebomi, PhD.

Current position and institution:
Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Bio:

Victor Adebomi, PhD, completed his undergraduate studies at Osun State University, Nigeria, where he carried out his undergraduate thesis under the mentorship of Prof. Israel Oyewole. He then pursued his PhD at Emory University under the supervision of Prof. Monika Raj, earning his doctorate in Bioorganic Chemistry in 2022. During his doctoral research, he developed new organic and bioorganic chemistry approaches for peptide modification, including site-selective functionalization strategies, methods for cyclic peptide synthesis, and high-throughput screening platforms to identify peptide binders to biological targets.

He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington, where he was mentored by Gaurav Bhardwaj, with additional mentorship from David Baker. His work focused on developing computational and AI-driven methods for cyclic peptide design, as well as the de novo design of small protein binders to diverse biological targets. He has published several peer-reviewed papers and is an inventor on patents spanning chemical biology and AI-driven biomolecular design.

Outside of research, he is a passionate soccer fan and enjoys both watching and playing the sport.
